Correcting Sagging Skin – Which Way is the Right Way?
You are probably already aware that sagging skin is a natural part of aging. You most likely also know that there are a lot of skincare treatments out there that supposedly correct skin sags. So, which way is the right way to treat your sags and wrinkles? Does any one treatment work better than another? To answer that question, you have to really get to the heart of the problem.
Collagen Loss is One of the Biggest Factors in Skin Sagging
Collagen is basically a binding agent of skin cells. It helps to keep them together and give your skin as a whole a stretchy but smooth appearance. The problem is that, like other proteins your body produces, your collagen levels can change over the years, dropping off dramatically when you get older.
The majority of skin treatments these days are designed to either kick start your collagen production again, substitute something else for collagen, such as Botox, or tighten up your skin surgically, such as with a facelift procedure.
Different Procedural Methods Are Used
Each way of treating sagging skin and wrinkles uses a different procedural method. One category of treatment types is aesthetic laser equipment. Lasers use focused beams of light and heat to treat the skin. Other methods might use chemicals or needles to treat the skin. Some even use sound waves.
Those Differences Are Important Due to Skin Type and Health
There are certain skincare treatments that are only meant to be used to treat very specific types of skin issues. Depending on the general health of your skin, you might not qualify for some of them. For example, if you are prone to acne outbreaks then choosing the wrong treatment for your wrinkles and sags could fix that problem but make your acne worse in the process.
The type of skin that you have also matters. Certain treatments are not meant for those who happen to have naturally darker skin. Certain laser treatments, for example, can leave permanent light spots on the surface of dark colored skin. Also, certain treatments are not good for those with oily skin. The fact is that darker-skinned people tend to have bigger oil glands. So, if you have darker skin, you might have to factor in both of those things.
There is No Right Way to Correct Skin Sags
As you can see, the answer to whether or not there is a right way to correct skin sags is really both yes and no. There is no universally best treatment for everyone on the planet, but there certainly is a best option out there for you specifically. You just have to figure out what it is.
The good news is that your journey towards healthier, smoother skin may begin a lot sooner than you think. Any skincare clinician or dermatologist should be able to tell you which treatment is your best bet and get you started. However, that journey is likely to be a long one no matter what. Most skincare treatments occur in a series of sessions. So, don’t expect one appointment at your local clinic or spa to do the job by itself.
